Aims & Objectives:
To re-engage every child back into mainstream education by identifying the underlying issue/challenge that a young person faces and providing a 4-8 week tailored programme designed to remove barriers to learning. The programme would provide:
1. Pastoral support for teachers: Identify challenging students early and implementing measures to supports the teacher.
2. Student Intervention Support e.g. monitoring of attendance, working with families and rewarding positive change.
3. Access to a range of external agencies.
Targeted Group:
Key Stage 3 and 4 students that are at risk of being excluded from school for presenting behavioural challenges.
Benefits to the Young people
The programme will help the students with the following:
1. To recognise the impact of their actions and teach them to take responsibility
2. To build their confidence by helping them to articulate their thought process.
3. To help identify barriers to learning- such as educational, environmental, social/emotional and help them overcome said barriers.
4. To build Resilience and Mind set – working with external agencies who support young people in the area for example an educational psychologist, using the student’s interest to support them etc.
5. Empowering young people- this would be achieved through workshops linked to building up self-esteem, confidence and communication skills and to be more actively involved in the wider community.
Benefits to the school
1. To provide intervention to support failing students who may feel disenfranchised or disillusioned
2. To provide students with a number of transferable skills to allow them to interact productively in and out of the classroom.
3. To aid the development of constructive communication skills that facilitates positive articulation in a respectful and appropriate manner.
4. To reduce the disruptive behaviour that impacts on the students learning and that of others in the classroom environment.
5. To support positive engagement between teachers and students with disruptive behaviours by teaching strategies to limit negative and disruptive behaviour.
6. To provide integrated student management support that is measurable.
7. To reduce the costs associated with providing students with alternative forms of educational services.
